Homeless Animals Need Your Help

Volunteer Opportunities

Kennel Quilt Program (TREATS, Inc.)
The cats at the Tallahassee-Leon Community Animal Service Center are housed in stainless steel kennels. This type of kennel is necessary for sanitation, but not very comfortable for the cats. TREATS, Inc. is inviting quilters to make and donate quilts to help the cats and kittens be a little more comfortable while they wait for their forever home. If you’d like more information about this program, please contact Donna Joyner at the Animal Service Center 891-2970. There are some special requirements (size, fabric type, etc.), so please contact Donna before you get started!

Volunteer and Foster Programs
Our local Animal Shelter and Rescue Groups rely on volunteers for a variety of jobs. From office work to walking dogs and playing with cats, there's something for everyone. Visit our Shelters & Rescue Groups page for information on volunteer and foster programs in our area.

Fundraising & Special Programs

Cash-for-Critters Program (TLCASC)
Did you know that the empty printer ink cartridges that you have in your home or office can help save the life of a homeless animal? By donating these recyclable cartridges to the Cash-for-Critters program at the Animal Service Center, you can help raise money for the care of animals that may ordinarily be euthanised due to an extensive injury or health-related problem. Volunteers from the program will even come to your office to pick up the cartridges and transport them to the Animal Service Center for you. All you need to do is call the Animal Service Center (891-2950) to let them know you have your ink cartridges ready for pick-up and a volunteer will stop by to get them. Additional volunteers are always welcome to help with this worthwhile program! Visit
http://treatsinc.org/cash_for_critters.html or e-mail info@treatsinc.org for more information.

Kuranda Bed Donations (TLCASC)
By making a donation to the Animal Service Center’s Kuranda Bed Program you will help provide warm comfortable beds for the dogs housed at the Animal Service Center. Cash donations may be dropped off or mailed to the Animal Services Center at the following address: Tallahassee Leon Community Animal Service Center, 1125 Easterwood Dr., Tallahassee 32311 (please make checks out for any amount and write "dog bed" on the memo line). You may also visit www.Kuranda.com or call Carol at 1-800-494-7122 to purchase a bed at the wholesale price from the manufacturer. These beds will be shipped directly to the Animal Service Center. For more information on this program please contact Wade at (850) 284-4324

Wishlist for our Local Shelter and Rescue Groups
The Animal Service Center and our local rescue groups need your old newspapers, towels, blankets and other items for use in their kennels. The animals also enjoy having toys to play with and treats to nibble while they await their forever home. For a complete listing of these much-needed items, please click here.

Local Pet-Related Events

Fundraisers and special events are hosted by our local pet rescue organizations throughout the year to raise money for the homeless animals in their care. The Leon County Humane Society’s Annual Fur Ball and the Animal Service Center’s Tails & Trails Run are just a few of the great events that animal lovers in our community can attend to show support for these organizations. Please visit our Events Calendar page to find out what’s happening!

Spay & Neuter Your Pets!

We can all do our part to reduce the number of homeless animals in our area by spaying and neutering our pets. It not only helps make your pet healthier and less likely to roam, but also saves thousands of tax dollars each year that would ordinarily be spent on animal control calls, and relieves the burden on our animal shelters and rescue groups.
